On 16-17 April, 2011 The United States Department of Justice/U.S. Embassy in Yerevan through the USDOJ Office of Prosecutorial Development, Assistance, and Training (OPDAT), in collaboration with the UNFPA Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus Program organized a seminar-discussion on “Support for Victims and Successful Prosecution of Domestic Violence” in Tsaghkadzor. 

USDOJ invited American prosecutors and police officers.The Republic of Armenia was represented by the prosecutors in charge with these cases, police officers, experts from various agencies who took part in developing draft laws on Gender Equality and Domestic Violence, members of Parliament and judges.

Marie Yovanovitch, US Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia and Mr. Garik Hayrapetyan , UNFPA Assistant Representative welcomed the participants  of the seminar.

Key speakers also included, Prosecutor Wanda Lucibello , Chief of  Special Victims Division, Kings County District Attorney’s Office, Prosecutor Arlene Markarian,  Chief of Domestic Violence Bureau, Elder Abuse Unit, Kings County District Attorney’s Office, Sergeant Harout Bouzikian, Glendale Police Department , Prosecutor Steven Kessler , US Department of Justice and Jina Sargizova,  UNFPA CGBV Project Coordinator.

During the seminar  problems of gender-based violence and other forms of illegal interference with the rights of women and children from the viewpoint of best examples of preventing and comprehensive investigation of those crimes were discussed.
