Awareness raising is an important component of UNFPA CGBV project. It aims at spreading the knowledge and information about GBV and related issues among the population, and is to contribute to better understanding by the public in general of the scope of and the consequences of GBV in Armenia. For this purposes, awareness raising employs different approaches and tools including campaigns, targeted public events, trainings and information meetings, publishing and dissemination of information materials, preparation and demonstration of audio-visual thematic materials, etc. 

As of 2011, the following results were achieved under UNFPA CGBV "Awareness Raising" component:

  • 6 nation-wide public campaigns (16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence in 2008; 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence & White Ribbon in 2009; Gender-Based Violence Survey Results presentation, and 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence & White Ribbon in 2010) were implemented;
  • 3 thematic PSAs (2008-2010) were prepared and aired during public campaigns;
  • 1 documentary on Domestic Violence (2010), 1 film on GBV survey findings (2010) and 1 film on the types of domestic violence (2011) were prepared and aired on TV during public campaigns and screened UNFPA CGBV project events;
  • Awareness raising and trainings for more than 4,000 women, men, students, schoolchildren, journalists, teachers, lecturers, parishioners (in cooperation with ART FBO and Armenian Apostolic Church) were conducted;
  • Information meetings and psychological counseling were provided to more than 500 victims of violence;
  • Photo and story contest  - “My happy family” dedicated to the WPD 2008 and photo contest  & regional exhibition on GBV issues (2010), and contest for journalists covering GBV issues (in cooperation with OSCE and British Embassy/ Councils, 2010-2011) were organized;
  • 14 Issues of "Project Chronicles" e-newsletter (13th and 14th in 2011) as well as 3 issues of  the Regional Newsletter were prepared and disseminated within the framework of the project.
