Seminar on Gender Statistics for Representatives of the RA National Statistical Service
On August 6, 2010, UNFPA CGBV/Armenia organized a seminar on Gender Statistics for Representatives of the RA National Statistical Service (NSS).
The seminar aimed to provide information on gender statistics and policies focused on the production, dissemination and use of gender related data. During the seminar some of the main gender issues relevant to the UNECE region, and examples of policies and other initiatives were outlined. Participants of the seminar, namely key staff from NSS Statistical Work Methodology and Classifications, Population Census and Demography, Household Surveys, Labour Statistics, Social Sphere and Nature Protection, Statistical Information Dissemination and Marketing Divisions were provided with the materials and information on statistical indicators developed by the UNECE/UNDP Gender Statistics Task Force.
Two education documentaries on “Advocating for Gender Statistics” (World Bank), and “Methodology and Ethno-Cultural Aspects of Collecting Data” (UNECE/UNFPA) were demonstrated to the participants. During the seminar were presented results of gender analysis of “Women and Men in Armenia” statistical brochure published by the RA NSS. The analysis was conducted by the UNFPA CGBV/Armenia in cooperation with prominent gender experts in the field. During the seminar recommendations on improvement of brochure content, as well as quality and quantity of data were discussed with the participants.
The upcoming issue of “Women and Men in Armenia” statistical booklet due in November 2010 will be based on the EUROSTAT standards and recommendations provided by national gender experts.
