The survey on “Domestic Violence and Divorces” was conducted by “Liza Foundation” NGO within the framework of UNFPA CGBV project implemented with financial support of UNFPA and Norwegian government.
The purpose of the survey was to explore whether domestic violence results in divorces as well as to reveal domestic violence mechanisms and ways of prevention.
The survey became an important step towards exploring and raising awareness on the issue of domestic violence in Armenia. However, it is evident that one survey would hardly be enough to cover it in depth, and aside from collecting data it is absolutely necessary to understand the root causes and mechanisms of domestic violence. There are numerous taboos that we face in this field. It is hard to find the victims of violence since they don’t find appropriate to share their problems with others, while lawyers don’t give out information alluding to professional ethics, and courts are quite cautious in providing any information regarding domestic violence cases. Nonetheless, the phenomenon of domestic violence is a part of our reality and it has to be studied thoroughly.
